Carte Noir coffee, love scene readings, and sexy British voices

tulip-cup

Love this! Love love love it! Carte Noire coffee (which I’d never heard of till today) is promoting what it’s calling a “More Seductive Coffee Break.” And boy howdy. They’re doing it up in style.

They’ve got three British actors – Dominic West from The Wire, Greg Wise from Sense & Sensibility, and Dan Stevens from The Line of Beauty – reading love scenes or love meditations from books such as Lady Chatterley’s Lover, High Fidelity, Pride and Prejudice, and so on. (With more to come; they promise to do classic, modern, and emerging novels.)

As well as being a very nice experience, listening to those gorgeous British voices (and watching the men!) reading these passages, you can sign up to receive notifications of new readings, and – only if you’re a resident of the UK, unfortunately – click into a contest to get a sample of the coffee and win a Penguin novel.

Some of my friends were commenting that there needs to be another similar site, with actors like Hugo Weaving reading this way. And I, of course, would insist upon David Wenham as well. Num.

Anyway! If you’re looking for a nice short coffee break of your own, but want some Culture added in, settle in (“Are you sitting comfortably” as the actors ask), and enjoy the readings.
