Yes yes, I know I’m cheating. But I just could not find the time to do this yesterday. So here I am doing it today.
The Tuesday Teaser drill is this: grab the book you’re currently reading and let it fall open to a random page. (Or at least, moderately random; sometimes it just doesn’t work.) Pick two sentences from that page and post them as a teaser, to tempt people to read the book.
This meme is hosted by MizB at the Should Be Reading blog. Head over there and check out the rest of the teasers (there are a lot of them!) and leave your own if you like.
Here’s my teaser for this week, a day late:
There was a southerly when Alexander set out, but you know Alexander, he just kept on going, and the wind switched just in time, lasting just long enough for him and his men to get through. Some people say that it was the seed for the story of Moses parting the Red Sea.
– The Alexander Cipher, by Will Adams, p. 196
This is the prequel to Adams’ book that I reviewed back in May, The Exodus Quest. I’m enjoying it just as much too. Gotta love those mystery thrillers about archaeology! But choosing a Teaser a tough choice: was it going to be one of the dangerous scenes, or one of the more scholarly? Obviously I chose the scholarly.

I like the familiarity of “but you know Alexander” in there. That’s cool. Someday I will read these…
Yes, isn’t that cute? I suppose it’s the same sort of phenomenon as people calling their favourite sports figures by their first names. You get intensely interested in someone, historical figure or present day person, and you feel like you know them.
You know, in a non-stalkerish way. Ha!
OH! this one sounds really good. I’ll check it out
As long as the writing is decent, I just love books that go anywhere near archaeology. And a book that combines archaeology with a mystery about an actual archaeological subject — well. I’m in heaven.
Sounds like a fascinating book. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.
